Same map by the looks of it Gaius :D. Will be interesting to see what sort of different cities we'll create on it :).

I went on the islands map, cant put the game down, 8k citizens, +$10k a week, 5 squares unlocked

Managed to squeeze in a little play session this morning. I'm up to just over 4k citizens right now myself. Still only playing on just one square. Have 2 additional squares which I may unlock, but no major need for them yet. Once I run out of power again, I'll be expanding towards a neighboring tile where I can place the advanced turbines in a good patch of water :p.

 

Also took the opportunity to browse through the steam workshop this morning. Several hundred buildings had already been submitted I saw, an equal number of interchanges. Most of the things added are things I would classify as garbage, but a few better looking items stood out.

Damn work gets in the way of progress!

It will be interesting to see what comes out of our different styles. Looks like you are going for a modern grid approach whereas I am trying to emulate the english countryside I grew up in :).

Also had my first instance of "I wish I had known that sooner" just before closing the game last night. As soon as you zone a region as a specific industry type the traffic skyrockets. Before the change traffic wasn't an issue, 5 minutes after and I had logging export trucks clogging up all my highways out of the region. Going to have to rethink the road layouts now!

Slow but steady progress :). Reworked the highway running through the city. Traffic flow is pretty decent thus far, very minimal red. Close to 10k citizens, roughly 600 bus users. Soon to throw in subway!

Pollution is just there as far as I'm aware, I don't believe there's anything which can be done to get rid of it. Except for creating non-polluting industry. Such as logged industry or farmland. Or rely on offices for work, and simply have goods be imported over e.g. rail.

For asthaetic purposes I'm looking forward to the first mod which will disable the purple texturing of pollution. It looks off.

Myself I've also started work on revamping my industrial area last night. Current planning is similar to these examples. Although I do have a highway which will be running through my industrial area.

 

In addition to what is mentioned on that reddit post, something I've also noticed is that in this game traffic speed is affected by road incline. Making cars pull up slower and generally move slower on inclined parts. Which especially in combination with a set of traffic lights directly following greatly hinders flow. Making it generally better to elevate the highway through residential, commercial and industrial areas rather than elevating roads over highways.

Things are coming together nicely :). The bottom left area in the picture, the light green area, will be filled up with agricultural area soon and low density residential. 

For the industrial area, I'm not quite happy with the location of the windmills. Will relocate them sooner or later, allowing me to pull the highway straight rather than the weird corner it currently takes. Thus far traffic remains alright. Roughly 15% of citizens are weekly using public transport.

Tomorrow will have a go at introducing railway into the mix as well! Better do it now, rather than when my city is completely packed up already with buildings :p.

Welcome to Jerreksville! Pop. 18,000, pretty small at the moment, just raising cash to make a nice bypass around the area then start to expand.
