This evening at the launch event in L.A Josh Mosqueira revealed that Ladders are coming in the first major content patch for Reaper of Souls.
Josh said that one of the features they would have liked to have completed for launch was ladders but they wanted to spend time on it to get it right. The good news is that ladders will be launched with the first major content patch for Reaper of Souls. Note this is a “content” patch not a normal patch. The time frame for this release is currently a “couple of months”.
The ladders will take the form of “Seasons” with a “ladder-like” aspect according to Josh. Characters will level up and there will be specific ladders for seasons and special “goodies” will drop in those seasons.
More information will be revealed in the next few weeks according to Josh.
For those of us who've played diablo II the concept of ladders isn't quite new for a setting like diablo. However, I'm wondering what Blizzard will be doing with the idea this time around. As with Diablo II it most certainly used to be a nice touch, however also resulted in a great deal of cheating, anti-social playstyle, etc.
Wonder what they'll be changing with DIII. And also wonder what their timeframe for a couple of months is going to be ;).
